When someone comes into my office and tells me that they cannot do it or that they are not worth it, it is my job to help them see the possibilities and opportunities that are right in front of them.It all starts with a shift in their perspective and their vocabulary.I had one such situation recently.A job seeker came in to interview with our office.He was a recent college graduate from a top school, but unfortunately, the school of life had given him some tough lessons before graduating.He shared wit h us that when he attended college, he was always comparing himself to everyone around him.They all seemed to have it together and be successful.Somewhere along the road, he told himself he was not ever going to be that person ... you know that successful person because of where he came from.His situation is not a unique one.I often have people who come to my office and struggle to even make eye contact during the interview because of fear, shame, or uncertainty.(Start withBringing A Winning Mindset To The Interview.)The power of thoughts, words, and actionsWe started by looking at the disempowering words or phrases this young manwas using in his interviews and in general conversations he was having.Some of those phrases includedI cannotI dont knowI am not sureI triedThen we looked at his disempowering body languageArms crossedLooking downLooking awayLeaning back in his chairNext, we looked at the thoughts he was thinking as he was interviewingI am not smart enoughI come from a work ing-class homeOther people are smarter/better than meI dont have enough to show on my resume and/or in my backgroundOnce we were able to look at how his thoughts, words, and actions were aligned to create how he was coming across in the interview,we then had the opportunity to re-program his mindset.All he needed was to transform from a disempowered mindset to an empowered mindset.We first helped him replacethe disempowering words he was using with empowering words.These included phrases such asI canI amI willWe then replaced his distant body language with engaged body language such asOpen postureUncrossed legsSlight lean inStrong eye contactEmpowering mindset exercisesFinally, we discussed exercises he could do to create an empowering mindset prior to an interview,Looking in the mirror and telling himself,You are the man You got thisCreating a ansicht of intent that statedThe job he would haveWhen he would have itHow much it would pay himThe last step was having him declare that st atement of intent out loud first thing in the morning when he startedhis day.It also involved him creating a positive intent prior to an interview.By reprogramming his words, thoughts, and actions, he now has access to landing his dream job effortlessly and with ease.What about you?These simple steps are something any job seeker can do to create an empowered mindset prior to an interview.This means youReplacedisempowering words with empowering wordsReplacedistant body language with engaged body languageLookin the mirror and tell yourself,You got thisCreatea statement of intent that includes the job you want, by when you want it, and how much it will pay.Declare that statement of intent out loud every morning when you start your day.Though your resume is important, it is your mindset that truly determines your success in landing the job of your dreams.

The sites earned a reputation for having many job scams, and these scam positions often have generic job titles, such as Administrative Assistant or Customer Service Representative, and often say that you can work from home. The listings usually lack a specific company schauplatz or say that theyre international. Accordingly, they can say they cannot interview you in person. Learn to spot these and other employment scams so you can avoid wasting your time on a job that will never pan out. Avoid Craigslist Job Scams To avoid Craigslist scams, keep an eye out for the red flags listed below. Research companies before applying to jobs to ensure that the information on the listing matches that on the website. Tread carefully with compani es that do not list any contact information or a website on their job posting, and also do not share it in follow-up email communications. Do not send writing samples, your resume, or any contact information before you are confident a listing is not a scam, and never, ever send money through a Craigslist listing. Your choice of search keywords can also help you avoid scams. Be as specific as you can and, if possible, list both a specific job title and location to evade these scam listings. Red Flags- Signs That a Craigslist Job Post Isnt Real The following are some tip-offs that a job listing on Craigslist may actually be a scam. A generic job posting. Be wary of very vague job postings on Craigslist. Typically, a job advertisement includes information about the position, details on the company, and a specific job title. While some companies may post on Craigslist out of a desire for anonymity, if the post does not include a specific job title or outline the positions responsibi lities, its a potential sign that the listing is a scam. Poor grammar, typos, and an unprofessional look. Regardless of where its posted, a job listing should appear professional. Typos, grammatical errors, slang, or excessive amounts of exclamation marks are all red flags. The pay is really, really good. If the pay seems a little too good to be true, it might very well be a scam. Thats particularly true for jobs that do not require a lot of experience. A request for fees. Legitimate employers dont ever ask job applicants to pay for anything related to job applications or hiring. If a listing mentions fees, or if you get an email requesting them, avoid further communication. In addition, remember that legitimate employers will never ask for bank account information prior to hiring you and then it would be only for setting up direct deposit after you are employed ?with the company.?? More Craiglist Fraud These job scams will ask you to send money and/or set up a bank account to r eceive paychecks (which, if sent to you, are not legitimate). Other Craigslist employment related scams ask you to subscribe to a site where you can find more job listings, or have you join a site to receive web training. Some scams will ask you to pay for a background check or leistungspunkt check as a condition of employment. Others, once you have responded to the posting, will ask for your bank account or credit card information to process your application or start the hiring process. Some of these companies will instruct you to wire money for a training kit or employment supplies. Craigslist Job Warnings Craigslist provides a warning regarding some of the typical scams that could be listed in the Jobs section of the site. The scam postings may list jobs which arent legitimate, offer a chance to participate in paid research studies that dont exist, or list other fake opportunities to supposedly earn money. The job seeker is then directed to fee-based services and sites where you are instructed to enter personal information that is used for identity theft. Those sites include Background checking servicesA credit check or credit reportSites where you are directed to enter your resume, bank account, or credit card numbers, or other personal informationSites where you are asked to sign up for a free trial offerSites offering fee-based training or educationSites offering opportunities for making moneySurvey or focus group sitesSites designed to deliver malware or misuse your personal information Craigslist does have many legitimate job listings, so dont get discouraged. Simply be cautious when applying for jobs and giving out personal information.
