Eliminate Negativity from Your Job Interview Answers

Eliminate Negativity from Your Job Interview Answers You have sent dozens of resumes and have finally landed that interview. Now, it is time to start thinking about those potential interview questions and how you will answer them. This practice and thought process is an important part of the job seeking process. And, it is just as important to think about how your answers may sound to a potential employer. By practicing your responses to commonly asked questions, it will be easier to see if you come across as a negative or positive potential employee. For example, if the prospective employer asks, “Tell me about yourself,” they are trying to get to know youâ€"as a professionalâ€"better. If someone responds with something similar to the following: “Well, I’ve been stuck on unemployment for the past year-and-a-half and haven’t been able to find any sort of job,”â€"it obviously starts the interview on a negative note. Indeed, you may have been on unemployment for the past year-and-a-half; however, there is a better way to phrase the response. Try this: “My last job ended after the company closed its local facility. Since then, I have been honing my soft skills and searching for a job that fits my skills, abilities, and career goals.” Doesn’t that sound much more positive? Another example is the following question that employers may ask: “Why did you leave your last position?” There are many potential answers to this question. Some employees may state something similar to the following: “My boss was really unethical and I just couldn’t get along with him; his personality was terrible.” Again, the boss may have been difficult to work with, but you do not want the prospective employer to think that YOU are the difficult one. Instead, try, “There were some practices going on within the company that I didn’t agree with; it made it a difficult environment. So, I have decided to try to find a positive atmosphere that meshes well with my abilities and qualifications.” This is a much more positive approach. Remember that negative answers lead to the perception of a negative person. Be sure to think ahead to interview questions and frame your responses in a positive manner. Let the “positive you” shine through and showcase your skills, educational history, experience, and abilities to your prospective new employer.

Resume Format - A Brief Look at Resume Writing For PDF Format

<h1>Resume Format - A Brief Look at Resume Writing For PDF Format</h1><p>Although truly your resume can be written in practically any organization, a resume designed for PDF position is greatly improved. The explanation is that it is simpler to peruse, your introductory letter will be simpler to peruse and your entire resume will be simpler to print out and outline. We should take a gander at how you can design your resume for this format.</p><p></p><p>First of all, I should state that in spite of the fact that the substance of your resume can be in any organization, it will in any case be arranged for PDF position. In this way, all the data that you would remember for a standard resume would not be remembered for a PDF continue. For instance, you may have portrayed your preparation as an Associate of Arts degree in Communications, yet in a PDF group, you would compose 'Four year education in science in Communication'. A common resume will ha ve two unique passages, the principal section containing essential data about yourself, the second containing increasingly point by point information.</p><p></p><p>However, on the off chance that you will compose your introductory letter in a PDF design, it will be arranged in an unexpected way. You will have a third section which contains data about the position that you are applying for, with the titles the primary passage of your introductory letter. I will allude to the configuration of the introductory letter as the 'standard introductory letter position'. As you probably are aware, the introductory letter is one of the primary things that your potential manager peruses, so it ought to be an expert looking format.</p><p></p><p>Now you can without much of a stretch include the subtleties that you remembered for your resume, similar to instruction, work understanding and grants and so on and it will all be perfectly composed in a PD F group. It is a lot simpler to compose than a normal resume, and it is anything but difficult to look over and print out.</p><p></p><p>Also, it is much simpler to design a PDF for printing purposes than a traditional resume that is either arranged for an association or printed out. That is on the grounds that a standard resume incorporates a great deal of boxes and bulleted records, which make it hard to print out and check for your potential employer.</p><p></p><p>I should state that there are a few different arrangements that you can use for composing your resume. The most widely recognized is the MLA position, which is additionally utilized by the American Society of Newspaper Editors. The main distinction between this configuration and the standard resume design is that it has no clear lines or page breaks. The activity advertisements for papers regularly require the MLA format.</p><p></p><p>Finally, we sho uld make reference to that you can likewise put some HTML labels in your resume, yet they are significantly more hard to peruse than the line endings. Consequently, I unequivocally suggest that you position your resume for PDF format.</p>

PhD Zone Talk directly to employers University of Manchester Careers Blog

PhD Zone Talk directly to employers As part of our annual Pathways: Careers Options for Researchers programme, we bring a select group of employers together to answer your questions about what employers look for in applicants who have a PhD, in our PhD and Researchers Zone at the Graduate Recruitment Fair. When? Wednesday 12th June 2013 Where? Armitage Centre, Fallowfield, alongside the first day of the Graduate Recruitment Fair Who can attend? Any current or recent PhDs or doctoral research staff, from any university How do I book a place? You dont have to! However, if you register beforehand, it will make it much quicker to get into the event (otherwise, youll be made to register on the door) More info here: PhD Researcher Career Zone Who will be there? At the moment (be warned we sometimes have drop-outs on the day!), the employers signed up to attend are: Adelphi Group Ltd pharmaceutical consultancy and medical communications AMEC Power and Process engineering BAE Systems Detica information systems, business technical consultancy Complete Clarity (part of McCann Complete Medical) pharmaceutical consultancy (update: cancelled, 6/7/13 sorry!) GVI Global Vision International volunteer abroad opportunities IBM UK Ltd IT and business services The Institute of Physics careers and employment advice for physicists Instrument Design Technology Ltd beamline engineering and technology company Jaguar Land Rover automotive design, manufacture and sales Nucleus Central healthcare communications Pentest Ltd IT security consultancy Praesto Consulting Customer Relationship Management and Business Intelligence consultancy Schlumberger global oilfield services company SRG scientific recruitment agency and scientific services employer Tessella scientific and technical computing Unilever FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) multinational (including RD) There will also be a stand for careers and employability advice, staffed by me and other careers and researcher development colleagues, to answer any general careers queries or give you an extra confidence boost before you go and tackle all those employers. I think this is the strongest range of employers weve ever had at the PhD Zone. We normally have a good selection of employers looking for physical science, engineering and IT specialists, but this time, weve also got 3 employers targeting life and medical sciences researchers, and several consultancies and other employers who will consider any discipline (some but not all will expect you to be interested in applying technology, maths or statistics to business problems but that doesnt mean you have to be a programmer). Will they all have current vacancies for PhDs? No. They are all interested in recruiting people with PhDs at some point, but not necessarily right now. This means that even if youre not actively looking for a job imminently, its worth coming along to talk to them, for future reference. The aim of the PhD Zone is to allow you to quiz them on how they view PhDs, the value that PhDs can add to their organisations, and how they recruit PhDs, when they need them. Why no public sector/arts/social sciences employers? Unfortunately, those organisations either recruit PhDs in such small numbers or have such tight budgets that they cant afford the resources to send someone to recruitment fairs. (Believe me, we try, including offering them the space for free!) So not worth my while coming? Hold on there! If you want to see if your skills could be put to good use in a business setting, come along with an open mind and see what the PhD Zone employers say or see which other (non-business) employers are coming to the main fair. Talking of which Are there any other employers I can talk to? Keep an open mind and come and talk to the 70+ employers in the main Graduate Recruitment Fair downstairs. They are looking for people who have degrees and that includes you. A lot of the employers in the main fair look for graduates (including postgraduates) from a wide range of backgrounds, including humanities. If you come to the first day of Pathways (Friday 7th June), youll probably hear from PhDs who started employment by using graduate entry points and then hear about how they progressed much faster than other graduates, because of their maturity and advanced skills. Of course, the graduate route is not for everyone. This is our advice on deciding whether or not you should consider a graduate job after a PhD. If you are open minded, on Wednesday 12th, other employers include Her Majestys Government Communication Centre, the Information Commissioners Office, News Associates (journalism courses), Teach First and the Teaching Agency, Creative Support (care provider) as well as lots of retail management, engineering, finance, IT and science employers and general recruitment agencies the full list here. And theres more on Thursday 13th June, we have a whole different set of employers (but no PhD Zone that day). Employers on Thursday include the UK Civil Service, Government Operational Research Service, the Co-operative Group, the Local Government Association, the National Health Service Leadership Academy, Language Empire (interpreters and translators), and loads more retailers, engineering, finance, IT and science employers and general recruitment agencies full list here. Want to know how the make the most of these recruitment events? I know lots of you will have attended these fairs and come away saying they were pretty useless. If youre not interested in jobs with any of the employers attending, or any similar employers, then theres probably not a lot of point wasting your time. However, Im going to be controversial, and say that some of you were just asking the wrong questions or expecting the wrong information. Before you dismiss the idea of attending, try reading my advice on How to make the most of careers events as a postgraduate. Then make up your mind!
